Made by William Hutton & Co 1854 (probably). The Cutty Sark was the fastest Sailing Ship in that era and involved in the China Trade. Built in Dumbarton , The Cutty Sark was launched 22 Nov 1869 and a small group of men responsible for its' design was assembled including the chief daughtsman, Mr. John Rennie. This gallon size silverplated tankard gives a yearly history of the leisure time activity of a small group of men , probably Scottish shipbuilders who built some of the worlds most historical Tall Ships, who were playing the card game Whist. Look at the yearly dates on the tankard whih lead up to the launch of the Cutty Sark and then the break in the groups game activity. This break in time coincides to the time that Rennie was on assignment / working in China and resumes shortly after his return to Scotland / England. A message from the CS Museum in England agrees this John Rennie Fits & the Steel name also connects.
